Rob Zombie's Halloween
Posted on Aug 30, 2007 at 7:20 pm by Frighty Mcgee

I just got back from seeing Rob Zombie's Halloween. If you are planning to pay to go see this I highly recommend you don't. It's just not a good movie. I sat in the theater at the end waiting for that huge fan reaction with applause and the place was quiet. I can't tell you how many people walked out during the screening. Toward the end it was hard to pay attention every now and again because people just lost interest. There were people yelling out and just making fun of the movie.

I initially thought this movie would be crap when I heard the casting choices, and then some of the story ideas. Rob Zombie won me over in the following months though and I got super excited to see this. I'm the world's biggest Halloween fan. It's one of THE biggest reasons I wanted to make horror movies. I love the movie, I love the franchise sequels and all. I can't express without people seeing my home and looking back through my memories how much I love the story and the characters.

Tyler Mane doesn't understand the character or Rob told him how to act. Rob doesn't understand what made Halloween work, doesn't get it at all. The whole story was screwed with crappy editing choices and actors playing roles they shouldn't have been in. You can't go 5 minutes without someone vomiting up a bad word and as a filmmaker you learn early on what a mistake that is.

It's like Rob took Devil's Rejects and put it in a blender with Halloween. The big name actors barely get a chance to say anything. The things they changed in the story were the worst things they could have changed.

I'm so messed up about this movie that I'm having trouble putting together clear thoughts on what all was bad.

This isn't to say there were not good parts. Some of the deaths were stellar, others just were not done right and could have had so much more impact. Some of the "re-used" scenes has less than subtle changes that just weakened the story. He totally over used the loud noise scare, totally put the wrong music in the wrong places and over used the music like crazy.

Changing the family into that devil's reject mold was the worst thing he could have done. I thought after the first 30 minutes of the movie when they finally got to adult Michael there would be relief because of how awful the shit with the family and young Michael was, but no, it kept going. Just bad choices in story telling, bad attempts are reviving classic scenes and putting his own mark on them.

This movie is shit. Stay away at all cost. Trust me, it's not worth ruining your love for this story.

They will NEVER make another Halloween. If they do it will be 10 - 20 years from now. I'm so depressed and angry and just feeling ill all because of this stupid movie. I hope they never give Rob Zombie the ability to make another movie ever.
