Whenever she ventured near the dark wooded areas, the night mares would stampede out and tread on her with hooves made of car crashes, spider bites, and monsters. They threatened her with moist, reflective eyes and hungry voids. But tonight, a worm crawled out and it gnashed its teeth at her. She screamed and ran. The worm dripped caustic green ooze. She could hear it growl as it made its way toward her. Unfortunately, the only direction she could go was deeper into the forest. The trees blurred into black lines as she raced through the darkness. Behind her, the growling became louder and she could hear timber breaking. “Don’t fall-don’tfall-don’tfall-don’tfall-”she kept saying to herself. But she did fall. She tried to get up when she felt something drip onto her, like rain droplets, and in an instant, her body burned and smoked. She looked down at her hands as the skin peeled away to reveal first white meat, then red tissue, and finally bone. More rain. And more rain. She rolled over and stared into the mouth of the large worm; it twisted, made fish-like gasps with its razor-toothed mouth. She screamed at the pain and at the oncoming horror of being eaten alive... |
