Horror VS Gore-Porn: do they belong together?
Posted on May 14, 2007 at 12:20 am by gothspace
Whether it's in the movies or in literature, is it time to make a distinction between classic horror and gore-porn? The difference seems obvious enough. On the one hand, there is art which tells a story, which offers either suspense or adventure or even a rumination on human psychology -- on the other hand there is simply the most meagre excuse to offer a visceral thrill with a certain degree of shock value.

Sexual pornography certainly has its place. However, it's commonly accepted that "hard core" porno is distinct from traditional story-telling and is designated as different and found in a place of its own.

Leaving value judgements aside, at least for the moment, what is the commonality between sex-porn and gore-porn, and does gore-porn deserve to be labled and segregated in the same way?
