Syn DeVil

Posted on 13 May, 2007 by Superheidi

Syn DeVil has one of the nicest bodies in “the business”. And by “The Business” I mean the horror business. Her dark locks, ivory skin, and killer body all hold inside a smart and sexy woman who loves horror films and who loves acting in them. As one of the most often employed actresses in the underground horror film industry, UHMN wanted to give you the lowdown

What is the appeal of independent horror films to the fans?

Syn: Different things to different people. I’m sure some like the nude scenes. Maybe others the gore. For some it's even I believe the idea they could be part of the scene...as a filmmaker, actor, director and so on. Most people in the indie scene are at least somewhat accessible, meaning, you can come to a convention and meet us, and ask the people behind it how was it like to act, direct, produce, do the effects for that film. It’s a much more intimate atmosphere then seeing a big film & maybe catching a short interview with someone. The fans are what it's all about...

What do YOU enjoy about being in underground/indie horror?

Syn: Getting to make a bloody mess & getting paid for it! Well, yes, true also the fans, getting out to the conventions, signing autographs, taking photos, having people excited to meet ya...it's the best. Even on places like myspace, I’ll get a message saying ‘I loved you in this or that movie’ and it's like ‘wow I’m really doing something that people are entertained by...cool!!’ Also, walking into a video store and seeing a film I’m in right there. I laughed my ass off the first time. I just wanted to run up to someone and say, "I’m in that film"

What do you hate about it?

Syn:  I would say the only thing I really hate about it is when plans for a project fall through. You get all excited about it and then the budget isn't there or someone making the film has an unexpected event happen in their lives. Some films are funded well by bigger companies but many times it may only be 1 or 2 people funding the project.  Even something like a partnership breaking apart or someone having to buy a new car may cancel a project...

Tell me about your relationship with Brain Damage Films.

Syn: They represent & manage me for the most part...negotiate contracts and that type of stuff. It makes things easier for me; I just want things set up so I can do my part as an actress. But I do still handle some stuff on my own. Especially people I’ve worked with before. Or if someone approaches me at a show or via e-mail and offers me a fair deal for a film I can do it

Tell me one thing no one else knows about you:

Syn:  hummmmmmmmm...I thought at first the Internet (years and years ago) was a waste of time. Just people looking for "cyber sex" or some shit. Hell no! The Internet is the thing now...for just about anything.

What are the last two films you made, and what did you play?

Syn: Made vs. Released really messes me up. Especially after you have more then a few films.... I played a student and a pirate in Braindamage film’s "Curse of Pirate Death ", and I also played a zombie in a movie called “The 8th Plague”.

What films are you looking forward to being in in the near future?

Syn: There are plans in the works for some new stuff, but I always feel like well. Don’t count your chickens before the eggs hatch... I will say this: I should be working on another film with an east coast company in the fall. I should also be working with Braindamage films on a part 2 to a very popular film they did a few years back. Of course something could come up tomorrow so check back with me in a bit and I’ll fill ya in more.

Why will underground horror "never die"?

Syn: Well I guess it's just like rock n' roll: there will always be a market & a fan base. Also, the people making the films...if it's a high school or collage part time hobby or turns into a career, hand the right person a video camera & you'll have a movie in the works. Even before we had the technology to make films there were stories of monsters, vampires, demons and many subjects that are part of yesterdays and today’s underground horror.
